The Many Things to See and Do in Bucks County

Whatever the season is, beautiful Bucks County has so many sights and activities. Visitors and locals alike can find plenty of opportunities for shopping, fine dining, and even a fireworks display. This river town, just like the others, are a popular retreat for artists, writers and celebrities who established residencies in the county. This lead to the development of Bucks as an artist’s colony with its timeless charm. Located north of Philadelphia from the river towns from Yardley to New Hope, Bucks County offers fun for the whole family.

During winter, one popular activity in Yardley is ice skating in Lake Afton. This manmade pond is at the center of Yardley’s downtown area, right at the corner of Afton Avenue and Main Street. When it is not frozen, Lake Afton is a popular location for fishermen, ducks and leisurely lunch break-ers. Another favorite is the Garden of Reflection which was built to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. This Pennsylvania monument includes historic farmlands as a backdrop and plays host to various September 11 memorial events every year. Because Yardley is very close to transportation hubs in Trenton NJ, many of its families suffered the loss of loved ones on 9-11.

When eating out in Bucks County, you will find plenty of restaurants in Makefield Township. For fine Italian fining, go to Newtown’s La Stalla Restaurant. Located on Swamp Road in the center of Newtown, this restaurant derives its name from the farm that once existed on the same parcel. Family style Italian fining and Old World charm give an authentic feel of this great restaurant. Another great place is Jules Thin Crust Pizza on North sycamore Street in Newtown, perfect for pizza lovers and families. Based on the concept of healthy, fast food, Jules’ boasts an organic menu and kid-friendly dining. They pride themselves on their dedication to using locally sourced ingredients, whenever possible.

The history-rich, town of New Hope, nestled along the banks of the Delaware River, is a perfect place for shoppers. With quaint specialty shops dotting its path, this town has something for everyone. The community of New Hope is steeped in history, arts and culture. Home to the Bucks County Playhouse, and the New Hope Ivyland Railroad, these two icons offer exciting activities for families. Peddler’s Village is up the road from New Hope and boats a full event calendar that includes a strawberry festival in May a scarecrow festival during the fall. You will find unique shopping and dining experiences with more than sixty shops and five restaurants.

General George Washington crossed the Delaware River on the 25th of December 1776. Each year, the town of Washington Crossing holds a re-enactment of this historical event. The whole community joins in marking the Christmas Day crossing or George Washington, and is one of the many activities that you can take advantage of. Other Washington Crossing PA events include wine tastings and a trip to the wildflower preserve. These are just some of our favorite things to do in Yardley and testimonies about the New Hope community, including the New Hope fireworks display.
